How to navigate the foster care world as a classroom teacher
As a foster parent since 2015 and an educator since 2008, I have seen many children who need support in a variety of ways. My hope in developing this resource is to bring two areas of need together. Oftentimes, teachers want to help foster children but may not know how, and foster parents can become quickly overwhelmed when enrolling their child in the local school system. I know how overwhelming all of the terminology for education, especially special education, and foster care can be (and I'm in both worlds!). This website is designed to give you the most important terms, resources, and places to go to find more information if you need.
While the resources and terms are from foster care and education in California (specifically, Northern Los Angeles County), most can apply to these entities anywhere in the United States.
